Acer TravelMate 5760 Laptop Reviews and Specs
The Acer TravelMate 5760 will ship with a choice of Intel Core i3 or Core i5 chipsets, and be able to support up to 8GB of DDR3 RAM.
A 15.6in LED-backlit HD display with a resolution of 1,366 x 768 is incorporated into the chassis, which the firm claims is 33 per cent more efficient than standard laptop screens.
Connectivity comes in the form of three USB 2.0 connections, an external VGA port, HDMI output, as well as the usual Ethernet and audio jacks.
A five-in-one card reader will also be included together with a DVD Super Multi-layer drive.
In terms of storage, users are offered 250GB HDD as standard, but 320GB, 500GB, 640GB and 750GB versions are also available.
The key selling points of the TravelMate are the security and remote management tools. The 5760 features the Acer ProShield Security suite, which contains pre-boot authentication (PBA) and allows users to create a Personal Secure Drive, which encrypts all data stored within it.
Intel’s Anti-Theft technology has also been built in, allowing users to remotely delete files, freeze or lock the device if it is lost or stolen. During lock-down the notebook is inoperable and access to encrypted data is disabled.
Meanwhile, Acer Backup Manager software is included to protect data and the Absolute Data Protection (ADP) application allows users to track their computer if it’s lost or stolen.
Users can also permanently delete unwanted files and folders using the File Shredder tool.
In terms of battery life, users can expect four hours of usage from the 4400 mAh 6-cell Li-ion pack. This rises to six hours with the 6000 mAh 6-cell battery, and Acer claims a maximum of nine hours when using the 9000 mAh 9-cell Li-ion pack.
With a 6-cell battery pack weighing 2.54kg and a 9-cell pack weighing 2.81kg, the TravelMate is portable but remains heavier than other laptops such as the Samsung Series 9, Asus U36 and Apple MacBook Air.
However, with Acer offering a low price point, this could be attractive to business users on a budget. Acer has confirmed that the TravelMate 5760 will be available from mid-July with prices starting at £379 + VAT.
